Stamps, Grids, and Collage. Finding Inspiration in Postage Stamps
Have you ever thought about looking at postage stamps as a source of artistic inspiration? There are so many creative possibilities of postage stamps in junk journals and art journaling, particularly with a focus on crafting captivating collage pages within a grid format.
A Treasure Trove of Stamps
I’ve been recently inspired by a generous donation of postage stamps from my local stamp club. Faced with this abundance of tiny treasures, I felt compelled to explore their potential in my art. And what better way to showcase their diversity than through collage?
Grid Journal Magic
One of my favorite ways to collage is in a grid journal. Grid journals offer a fantastic structure for collage. The grid itself provides a framework, allowing you to play with composition and create visual harmony. Within each cell, you can experiment with different collage elements, colors, and textures.
Beyond the Stamps
To complement the postage stamp theme, I incorporate other collage elements, such as:
Vintage papers: Adding texture and visual interest.
Handwritten numbers: Echoing the numerical theme of the stamps.
Foreign language text: Creating a sense of mystery and intrigue.
Here’s another grid journal page I made with an old stamp album. I wanted to use my colorful Queen Elizabeth stamps. In addition to that, I had a rubber stamping that I tore into small pieces and shared over the spaces.
I love looking for and finding inspiration in unexpected places, and embracing the creative process. Whether you're a seasoned collage artist or just starting out, I hope you are encouraged to experiment, play, and see the potential for art in everyday objects.
