My Penmanship collage-art notebook
This week I've been working on some collages in pages of a little notebook called Penmanship Notebook from the Unemployed Philosophers Guild.
Where it all began
Back in January I posted a gluebook project I did using a notebook from the same company called Mars Passport.
I loved the idea of creating collages in a Mars passport and did pages like these.
I wrote a review for the passport/notebook on the company website, and they were nice enough to offer me another kind of notebook and so chose the Penmanship Notebook. Handwriting, cursive, calligraphy, etc., are beautifully expressive and I though this notebook would be a great place to create collages with this kind of theme.
The blue of the cover is vivid and so I decided I would stick with a blue theme. Since blue works well with violet and purple, I added those as well.
Everything is done in a vintage style, but I did use some pattern paper and things from a few supplies I had at home. The navy blue pattern paper came from a pad produced my My Mind's Eye, which is my absolute favorite brand of patten papers. I find them at Michaels.
Here's another with the darker blues and violet. Don't you love that darker kraft paper? It makes the colored elements really stand out in contrast.
And of course I've got postage stamps everywhere. Why not, right? On the pages below I managed to use only vintage papers. Sometimes I'm strict about that and other times not so much. I should be consistent, but sometimes I find that I have the perfect piece of "new" pattern paper that would work really well in a collage and then use it. I figure that as long as it adds to the look and feel of the overall piece, and never becomes a distraction because it doesn't fit or complement the others, then it's fine to use new with the old.
Anyway, I'm half way done with this little notebook. I had to tear out a lot of pages so that it wouldn't bulk up too much. All these layers of paper tend to make the pages really thick. I'll post more as I create them.
