Collage art in sets of three

In the Facebook Vintage Gluebooks and Pages group, I posted a challenge on making collages in sets of three. I recommended the substrate be something the size of a playing card, but they could be an index card or Rolodex card too. 

The purpose of the exercise is for several reasons:

• Carry a theme across multiple pieces. 
• Make the three pieces separate but related
• Create more than one collage at once
• Use up more scraps

When finished, an artist can decide if the three pieces should stay together, of if they can be, say, given away to three different recipients. Here are mine:

These three share similarities in the roses and the Austrian postage stamps, but aside from that, they are all different. Below are more examples of what other artists came up with.

Wow! The blue contrasts with the pink so nicely. Also, the subject matter of New York by night is really interesting. I love architecture in general, and this set really appeals to me.

These three by Kimberly Wulfert also also go with those by Linda. The blues in the cards, along with the black and white photos bring them all together. 

These three are very similar, but have enough differences in their paper embellishments to make each one unique. I love the drama of the black. It makes everything look so elegant. 

Laurie used illustrations of people to be the common theme between these three. The bits of dictionary pages add a nice touch. I love how the numbers on the cards are still visible.

These three by Jenny Westerman are pulled together by the US Christmas stamps and the neutral color of the beige papers. Truly lovely.

All three of the rubber stamps are different in these three cards by Andrea. It's only when they are side by side that you see a pattern. There is a very subtle effect made by the doily over the text pages. There's a lot to notice if you look carefully.

The red in these cards by Bonnie Boyle are neat. It stands out spectacularly against white and beige. A single rubber stamp is used in all three.

I love the starkness of these bursts of color in the green and red. I also like the style that reflects a more "modern" period.

All in all, there were a lot of amazing sets of collages posted by some very creative people. I love to see what people come up with when given a challenge like this. Well done, everybody!
