Painting over a map
I've always wanted to use a map as a canvas and paint on top of it. Finally I gave it a try.I took a map of California, stamped it with a rubber stamp and permanent black ink, applied a light coat of white gesso over the top, and then used ordinary Crayola watercolors over the top. After everything dried I rubbed off a little of the watercolor and gesso where I wanted the text and markings to show from the map.Now what do I do with it? I'm not sure. I have to think about it. Maybe I'm not done and will go back and add something to it.
