Making postcard art valentines

Have you thought about sending a postcard valentine in the mail to anyone? Have you ever sent one before? I'm sure you enjoy it when someone sends you one.

I've received some real beauties of collaged postcards over the years, and this year I want to send out some of my own. I had the idea that I would use my received postcards as examples of cards that I could recreate.

In the two postcards below, I received the one above. I made the one under.

In the original card I received, the background paper is ledger paper. On the top is a strip of pattern paper. On the left are some postage stamps and a small piece of sheet music. The main component is the large red flower.

I tried to do something similar. I decided to use a few more postage stamps for the right side of the collage. I chose colors that compliment the central flora piece, of course.

I also wanted to do something with hearts. In this one below, I was inspired from a postcard I had received in the past, where the artist layered different kinds of papers--nesting them--so that you go from large to smaller size. Then the heart goes in the middle.

I added some hearts on this one below, too. Here I collaged a bunch of random bits, looking for pinks and reds primarily.

If you'd like to see how I created these in more detail, you can watch the video here:
