The fun we've had with the Christmas Gluebook

December is almost at an end, and I've been really enjoying The Collage Art Gluebook, Vintage Christmas Edition! Many others have been enjoying it as well, and I wanted to share some of the amazing pages of collages people have been putting together.

I mailed out over 700 copies with the pre-order in October, so I knew I was going to see a lot of beautiful art. This is what my dining room table looked like while I was packaging books. I mailed them out across the world.

I'm friends with the postal workers at my local post office, so they weren't surprised at what I brought in to mail.

Anyway, on to the pages! I won't include an example for every day, but there are hashtags assigned to each day. You can type in whichever title in Instagram, YouTube, or in the Collage Art Collective, and you'll see examples of what people put together. This is for #xmascollage1

Lastly, I want to share a wonderful email I received from Karen in California, who wrote me a note about what the Christmas gluebook has brought to her.

Good afternoon, Margarete,

I wanted to thank you for putting together The Collage Art Gluebook, Christmas Edition. I have so enjoyed working in this book all month long!

The prompts for December 20 were especially poignant for me - I changed the prompt just a little from what I would have loved to receive to what I actually did receive at ten years of age. 

My father owned a grocery store in a small town in Missouri and my mother was a stay-at-home mom. Obviously, my parents were not wealthy, but I was certain we were - they were very generous to their children, and filled our lives with love, home cooked meals where we all ate dinner together at 6:00 pm promptly, church every Sunday, Florida vacations every year, and even a trip to California to visit Disneyland the second year it was opened.  

So I wanted to recreate my 1956 Christmas. when I was 10 years old.  Well, that took a lot of thought - I’m 75 years old and my 101-year old amazing mother (still alive and smart as can be!) and I walked back in our memories, and came up with a list of my gifts (or at least a very close list) of what I received:  a monopoly game, a white felt poodle skirt that my mother made me (and, with it came sparkly decorations for every holiday, e.g., poinsettias for Christmas, Hearts for Valentine’s Day, and as each holiday approached, she took off the old decorations and “whipstitched” the appropriate ones on), saddle shoes (all the rage!), paper dolls (I always loved cutting paper), Archie comic books (my favorite … mom told me they cost 25 cents each), coloring books and a BIG box of new crayons (those were the days we kept our crayons in a cigar box!).

Mom and had so much fun walking down memory lane, and I confirmed what I always believed ... we really were wealthy … blessed in every way!

So, Margarete, I just needed to thank you for leading my mother and me down this memory lane … it truly made my Christmas!!
