Inspired by Bob Ross

mountain painting

My 5 1/2-year-old and I watched a 30 minute painting video by Bob Ross this morning. Actually, I was watching it and she snuck up behind me to see. I pulled her on my lap and we watched in wonder how someone could paint something so vivid in such a short period of time.

After it finished I was ready to watch another episode but V said, “Come on, Mom. Let’s go paint it.” I didn’t really want to; I thought it would be too much work. But since her little brother was sleeping, and she really wanted to do it, I agreed to help her set up.

We used acrylic paints and her small journal art book. Sometimes I gave her some basic instruction on how to make leaves on a tree, for example (from what I had just learned from Bob Ross) but then I let her have a go at it.

She did great. She was so proud of herself and happily showed her dad who agreed that it was done very well.
